Before you start remember that everyone pronounces his name wrong. His name is actually pronounced “Dr. Soice,” not “Dr. Soose.” After reading all of these quotes you might finally being saying it the right way!
Today you are you! That is truer than true! there is no one alive who is you-er than you! ~ Dr Seuss
Easy to forget amongst the stress of work and daily life. You always wake up to yourself and the beauty of your own experience. Even during tough times and tough days, remember that you are blessed to be alive and be experiencing the magic of life. Try to remember being as amazed as you were when you were a child!
Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
~ Dr Seuss
It’s easy to look at the end of relationships and get upset. Even saying goodbyes or ending work experiences it can be tempting to look at the downside. Instead try to look at the amazing things that came out of that experience and what you learned from it. You can always take something away from an experience, even if it felt like a bad one or one that ended instead of how you hoped it would. Smiling at those experiences will also help you move in easier.
I like nonsense; it wakes up the brain cells.
~ Dr Seuss
In today’s world we are hit with a lot of noise, news and a lot of upsetting things. It can be difficult not to get too serious about everything, especially as we get older, get married, have kids and buy houses. A good way to break out of old mental habits is to constantly expose yourself to new things, new ways of thinking and new experiences. Complete nonsense can be very refreshing for a mind beset with the experience of just trying to survive!
Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.
~ Dr Seuss
Present moment awareness is key to enjoying a great life every single day, even if it’s a difficult day. The degree of present-ness we can bring to our day certainly helps us appreciate the things around us, even a simple cup of coffee can be mindfully drank and enjoyed to a much greater extent than just drinking it as fast as possible first thing in the morning! Remember that even if today doesn’t go your way, tomorrow is a whole new opportunity.
A person’s a person, no matter how small.
~ Dr Seuss
Such an important maxim for life. Opening up the same compassion you extend to friends and family, to a wider group like the vulnerable and indeed everyone else around you in society, is so important. Every day there are moments you can extend a random act of kindness to a stranger in the street and create a beautiful moment. People come from all walks of life and the diversity should be celebrated and explored! It can be fun and adventurous to make a habit of approaching one new person a week for a month and see how you get along!
I meant what I said and I said what I meant.
~ Dr Seuss
How many times have you said something and it just didn’t get across but you were so certain you knew what you meant? We’ve all been there! The flaws of the spoken word compared to the complexity of our feelings. Listening is an important art and something we can all practise as we grow. It’s also a good idea to cultivate a habit of asking for feedback and listening to the responses, particularly in the workplace. As we get older there’s no reason to stop developing ourselves to become a better person.
Fun is good.
~ Dr Seuss
What more to say? Fun is good. No matter how serious things get in life, there is always cause to remember that fundamentally we are on this little rock for a tiny time span in the context of the length of the universe and so what more is there to do than have fun and enjoy it? Often as we get older we forget the things that make us really laugh. Kids can remind us! Playing with younger brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews and nieces is a wonderful way to rediscover that you’re always young at heart, you never get old on the inside.
You’re in pretty good shape for the shape you are in.
~ Dr Seuss
Whatever happens, you’re in good shape or you will be soon enough, unless you’re in hospital of course! Your body has wonderful natural healing capability and can tap into more through yoga, meditation and exercise. Healthy eating is important too. Keep those habits up from an early age and your older self will be thanking your younger self in no time at all!
From there to here, and here to there, funny things are everywhere.
~ Dr Seuss
It’s amazing how you can find the funniest things in the strangest of places. Just crossing the street and seeing someone drop an ice-cream can be hilarious (unfortunate for them of course). Crowded on a train and somebody lets one go by accident? That is cause for hilarity. Sometimes if you’re feeling blue, remembering those times will put a smile on your face no matter what. Remembering they can happen any time will be sure you look at the world through the right perspective.
Adults are obsolete children.
~ Dr Seuss
As we get older we add layer and layer of complexity onto ourselves until often we forget how magical everything was when we were children, we become obsolete. Well the great news is we can realize it all again, practicing mindfulness, actively cultivating habits and dropping as many belief systems as we can, free the path to being as happy and as carefree as we were when we were little menaces running around causing mischief.
Only you can control your future.
~ Dr Seuss
No matter what you are 100% in control of your own destiny at all times, this can be daunting but also incredibly liberating. Whatever happens you can take full control of the situation and steer it towards where you want to go. Even when change feels dramatic or the path uncertain, take small sets. As Lau Tsu said, the journey of 1000 miles starts with one step. Taking those mini steps will lead you on a path to where you want to go. Within a day, month or a year you will be looking back and thinking what was I concerned about? You had it all covered.
Hollywood is not suited for me, and I am not suited for it.
~ Dr Seuss
Hollywood, a tough nut to crack. Its not for everyone, the riches are available to just a few and so many try to make it there. Auditions and events are not for the faint hearted and usually only the best talent makes it to the top. Dr Seuss knew he didn’t want to be involved!
You are you. Now, isn’t that pleasant? ~ Dr Seuss
Being you is the most wonderful thing there is! Just remember nobody else will ever be you or feel the way you do, you have a truly unique experience. What a gift! Sometimes we can be tempted to look at others and compare ourselves but really there is no point or no need. You are you and that’s all you need to be. Just remember everyone else has their own struggles and is probably looking around thinking the same things most of the time!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. ~ Dr Seuss
Whatever happens your mind is one of the greatest assets you have for figuring out the answers. Spending time in solitude and reflecting on your situation is a great way to come to a sudden inspiration about what to do or where to go next. Combining this with the drive to see things through, despite any fear or doubts you might have, is what will always set you on the right path no matter what. Courage and planning are all you need to set yourself in the direction of your choosing.
The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. ~ Dr Seuss
Reading is such an important habit to keep up to keep the mind fresh and inspired. Warren Buffett credits reading a book a day as one of single most important things to his success. Indeed numerous research studies have shown that there is a high correlation between very successful people (in all fields) and the amount they read. Don’t like reading a lot? Try audio books as a way to get through new content. You can listen on higher speeds to rapidly get through information if your brain can handle it!
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not. ~ Dr Seuss
It’s all about you at the end of the day. Once you grow up you have to fend for yourself no matter what. This can be daunting but its also very liberating when you think about it. Life is a journey for you to learn it yourself via your unfolding experience with it. Taking full responsibility for every aspect of your experience and every decision you make will help you act responsibly and courteously towards yourself and others around you. Don’t forget; always reach out to help others in time of need as everyone needs support every now and again.
It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become. ~ Dr Seuss
This is a beautiful maxim and a way to look at anything really. Often times in life we have to start at the bottom, as an apprentice in things. Buying your first house or starting your first job. Things can look so modest at first, but with time and attention they can turn into beautiful things. Putting your unique vision over those things and applying yourself faithfully and with love will yield beautiful results for yourself and those around you.
Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple. ~ Dr Seuss
A lot of the time the right answer is simplest one. Ever spent hours and hours ruminating on something only to have the simplest thing pop into your heard and think ‘how did I not think of this before!’. Some of the best books, businesses and campaigns were started with the simplest of ideas. It’s a phenomenon that the great eastern thinkers figured out thousands of years ago and only with the increasing complexity of life did we get confused about it all and forget. Keep it simple.
To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world. ~ Dr Seuss
This is such a beautiful sentiment. Have you ever thought about someone so dearly that they are the whole world to you? Now imagine how they might feel about you. Is it the same way? Consider that in its full experience. You are incredibly important to someone, probably many people, and remember that when you miss their call or have a falling out. You are a rock star so act like one!
You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams. ~ Dr Seuss
This quote is magical and really sums up the beauty of being in love. Waking up and feeling like you’re still dreaming is an experience that everyone should feel at some point in their lives. Loving someone and being loved back is a wonderful feeling. If you can maintain it all your life with someone then you are truly blessed.
Being crazy isn’t enough. ~ Dr Seuss
All the greatest musicians and inventors of our time could probably relate to this but its also a great insight for entrepreneurs and anyone look to do something new. You have to match that crazy, zaniness with a passion, desire and work ethic to make that idea come to something real.
Why fit in when you were born to stand out? ~ Dr Seuss
The paradox of individuality is that we want to stand out from each other but also look like each other as well! It’s a case of how much individuality do we really want? Well, remember you were born unique so express yourself as freely and beautifully as you can. That’s the best service you can do yourself and all those around you, by acting authentically and being true to who you are. Don’t conform if you don’t want to.
How did it get so late so soon? ~ Dr Seuss
Ever had one of those nights where you’re having so much fun you totally forget where it all went? Immersed in conversation, dining with friends, even reading a book, and bang, the whole night just disappeared. We’ve all been. That’s the sign of something beautiful, cherish it and smile that it happened.
All alone! Whether you like it or not, alone is something you’ll be quite a lot! ~ Dr Seuss
Lots of people are lonely these days and that’s no surprise with the internet, social media and things feeling connected but disconnected at the same time. You can take the perspective that we’re all alone, we were born alone and we will die alone, but that’s a bit unsettling. Instead think about the history of the universe that brought you here and the fantastic improbability that you are even here experiencing it. Think about the complete absurdity of it all and how we are all just trying to get along to an unknown destination, you’ll start feeling a lot less alone in no time!
Remember me and smile, for it’s better to forget than to remember me and cry. ~ Dr Seuss
Always hold those that can’t be with you or near you close in mind and remember them with fondness. If you’ve just moved aboard and missing your friends, hold them in your mind and smile. Keep in touch and don’t forget their birthdays or important events. Remember they will be thinking about you and missing you just as much.
You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut. ~ Dr Seuss
Always be open to opportunity around you. Don’t forget the old saying, when one door shuts another one opens. Every day and night can go in any direction you choose, you don’t have to follow the same patterns every day, in fact its very advisable not to! When someone talks to you about a new experience or activity that doesn’t make sense or doesn’t sound interesting at first, dig in to it. If they are passionate about it there must be something interesting, so learn the nuances and learn something new.
If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good. ~ Dr Seuss
Dare yourself to do something different. If anyone comes back from a vacation and says they went skydiving, bungee jumping or surfing, and you haven’t, maybe it’s about time you did! There are so many amazing, weird and wonderful things to get involved in. Life is short so pack it full of little moments of glory and get through that bucket list so fast you’ll have to re-write it every year. You’ll make everybody dead jealous.
